Got Questions?
What is the Winning Intent system?
The Winning Intent system rewards teams for both goals and their intent to win. Teams earn points for goals (3 points each) and shots on target (1 point each) within 30 meters, encouraging more exciting and fairer football matches.
Does this replace traditional scoring?
It improves it. Goals remain the most critical factor (worth 3 points). Winning Intent adds a layer of recognition for teams' intent to win and creativity.
What happens in a draw?
Draws can still happen. The match ends in a draw if both teams have the same total points, combining points for goals and shots on target.
Won’t teams abuse the system with random shots?
No. As defined by FIFA, shots must be genuine attempts to score and on target. Winning Intent requires shots to be within 30 meters of the goal (visualise it 👀), ensuring that only meaningful efforts count.
How does this benefit fans?
Fans get more exciting matches with less defensive play. The system highlights effort and fairness, creating a more enjoyable and transparent game.
